Functional Safety Architect

Functional Safety Architect to define and implement safety strategies for complex automotive systems in compliance with ISO 26262. The role includes ECU safety concept development, hazard analysis, safety architecture design, FMEA/FTA/DFA, and leading safety case readiness for audits. Strong expertise in embedded software, AUTOSAR, microcontrollers, safety mechanisms, and collaboration across global teams is required.

Responsibilities

Define and implement functional safety strategies for complex automotive systems in line with ISO 26262 (up to ASIL D).

Own ECU safety strategy across hardware, software, and HSI.

Develop and maintain Safety Concepts, FSRs, and TSRs.

Lead Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) and define safety goals.

Design safety architectures with redundancy and fault-tolerant mechanisms.

Conduct safety analyses (FMEA, FTA, DFA, FMEDA).

Oversee safety-related software development ensuring MISRA compliance.

Plan and execute safety verification/validation activities and lead safety case development for audits.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in Agile Release Trains.

Skills & Experience

8+ years in functional safety engineering for safety-critical systems/ECUs.

Expertise in safety analysis techniques and embedded software development (MATLAB Simulink, C/C++).

Knowledge of automotive hardware architectures, AUTOSAR Classic, Vector stack, sensors, and communication interfaces.

Strong understanding of RTOS, cybersecurity standards, and integration/testing methodologies.

Experience with tools like IBM DOORS, PREEVision, GitLab.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.

DevOps mindset with CI/CD, TDD, and modern software practices.

Qualification

Bachelor’s/Master’s in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field with focus on embedded systems/functional safety.

Certifications: Automotive Functional Safety Professional/Engineer, Agile (Scrum Master/Agile Practitioner).

Preferred Skills

Model-based design (Simulink), AUTOSAR safety modules.

Additional programming skills (C, C++, Java).

Experience with CI/CD pipelines in automotive software.

Ability to work in multicultural, distributed teams.
